On this Day: January 6 1972: Gene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt, and Ron Evans, the crew of Apollo 17, prepared for their lift off the following day. It was to be the final trip to the moon of the Apollo program and carried Schmitt, the only geologist ever to visit Earth's satellite.
